In the second year of its partnership, the Federation and ITN Productions are again producing a news and current-affairs style programme, hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky.
‘Above and Beyond’ will report on the issues that impact on the health and safety of police officers, and their effectiveness in an environment of cost-cutting and changing threats to public safety. It will also feature harrowing first-person testimony from officers who have been assaulted as the Federation launches its Protect the Protectors’ campaign.
ITN Productions’ experienced reporting team will deliver compelling stories, case studies and interviews with leading individuals including PFEW chair Steve White, organisations and technologies that are helping officers meet the challenges of a modern day policing service in a world of conflicting priorities.
Mr White said: “By collaborating with ITN Productions once again, we will be shining a spotlight on many of the challenges being faced by today’s police officers. We’ll be looking at the welfare issues and demands placed on our members in today’s fast-moving landscape including, sadly, the unacceptable fact that so many officers are being assaulted just going about their daily jobs.”
‘Above and Beyond’ launches at the Police Federation Annual Conference in Birmingham on 16-17 May 2017.
Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News at ITN Productions, said: ‘We are excited to be working with the Police Federation once again, on a programme that goes to the very heart of modern policing – its challenges, and the technologies, specialist skills and organisations that are helping our dedicated officers keep the public safe. Officers are dedicated professionals, who put their lives on the line for us every day, and importantly, officer welfare and safety is an important focus of this year’s programme.’
