An Edinburgh man has appeared in court after a police officer was hit by a car while attempting to stop it driving through an Edinburgh street.
The male officer in his 50s was hit at about 03:20 on Saturday in the Cowgate, which is closed to vehicles between 10:00 and 05:00 for safety reasons.
Elliot Lees, 21, was charged with assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving and abusive behaviour.
He was also charged with drugs possession at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
He made no plea and was granted bail on Monday.
He is due to make a second appearance at a later date.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics.

A thug has been jailed for three years after attacking a police officer so badly she was unable to hold her baby daughter.
PC Alison Laughlan, 28, had been responding a street brawl in Johnstone, Scotland when Adam McManus, 26 launched the assault, Paisley Sheriff Court heard.
When she tried to arrest him after he assaulted two of his neighbours, he beat her around the head up to 30 times and told her ‘I’m going to f***ing kill you”.
He continued to her beat her and other officers despite being sprayed with Pava
Constable Laughlan, who has been a serving officer for almost eight years, was left with a concussion and severe bruising on her face, neck and ribs following the assault.
The vicious thug was jailed after admitting four charges against him at the court, including assault to severe injury on PC Laughlan.
Constable Laughlan has been nominated for a Scottish Police Federation bravery award.
