Care of Police Survivors (COPS) is proud to announce the appointment of survivor Gill Wright-Boulton as its new President-elect.

A serving Trustee, Gill has been involved with COPS since her husband PC Alan McMurray died on duty in 2006.

She credits the charity, which supports the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty, with helping her to rebuild her and her family’s life following Alan’s death.

Gill brings with her a wealth of experience as both a survivor (beneficiary of the charity) and a senior police officer serving in a number of specialist roles. Over the years she has taken part in a variety of fundraising events and represented the charity at many forums across the UK.

The Police Scotland Chief Inspector said: “I`m delighted to have been selected as the next National President of COPS and look forward to continuing the important and valuable work of the charity. COPS has been such an important part of my family’s life for the past 12 years and I am privileged to be given the opportunity to be involved in such a key role.”

COPS Chief Executive Tim Buckley said he was delighted to welcome Gill as the new President-elect.

He said: “Gill is passionate about the work of COPS and her experience as both a survivor and a police officer means that she has the ability and understanding to engage with both the families of fallen officers and police forces across the UK.”

Gill will take over the role in July 2019 from survivor Denis Gunn, who has served as National President since September 2014.

Denis said: “Even prior to joining the Board of Trustees 18 months ago, Gill demonstrated an obvious and enthusiastic support for COPS and, more recently, a willingness and skill to speak at major events to help promote the charity. I know she will make an excellent National President for COPS and I really look forward to working with her to ensure a smooth handover in July.”
