Consultation outcome: Independent review of deaths and serious incidents in police custody

On 23 July 2015 the Home Secretary announced an independent review into deaths and serious incidents in police custody. This review is being conducted by the Rt Hon Dame Elish Angiolini DBE QC.

She is examining the procedures and processes surrounding deaths and serious incidents in police custody, including:

  • the lead up to such incidents
  • the immediate aftermath
  • the conclusion of official investigations

We are seeking submissions from stakeholder groups, interested parties and members of the public to find out their views on deaths and serious incidents in police custody. These submissions will be used to inform the independent review.

The review will be published in due course.
