13 Feb Jim McDonald LLB
Jim McDonald LL.B, passed away on Tuesday 12th February 2019 after a long illness. Jim was a Detective Inspector in Tayside Police and the Deputy General Secretary of the Scottish Police Federation from 1991 – 95. He retired after 30 years police service in 1995 and went to University of Dundee where he obtained a law degree. He had just started working for a Dundee solicitor when the SPF asked if he would return as a Research Officer. Jim performed that role from 2000 to 2006.
Doug Keil (SPF General Secretary from 1991 to 2005) said, “Jim McDonald was my mentor and I simply could not have done my job without Jim’s guidance and assistance. He was first and foremost a really good cop, he had common sense and experience and he knew and cared for police officers. Jim was at the forefront of the Sheehy Inquiry and accompanied me throughout the negotiations where his tenacity and dedication was invaluable. On top of that, Jim was a great friend and he will be sadly missed.”
The SPF’s sympathy and condolences go to Jim’s wife Linda and their children and grandchildren.
